SENIORITY AND STARTING SALARY 

Seniority: Newly-hired officers shall not be granted seniority benefits, but shall be simply treated as newly-hired employees for the purpose of seniority.

Annual Salary Schedule – as of January 1, 2023

The Village may, in its discretion, grant prior service credit to a newly-hired peace officer when determining the officer’s initial placement on the salary schedule, so long as the prior service credit granted by the Village does not exceed the actual number of years the officer has served as a peace officer prior to employment with the Village. However, in no case will a newly-hired peace officer be placed in a position higher than the sixth step.

BENEFITS SUMMARY

Bargaining Unit: Metropolitan Alliance of Police (MAP) Chapter #207: full time, sworn employees in the rank of Police Officer.

Paid Benefit Time:

Vacation
Vacation is accrued based on date of hire for available use following the respective anniversary date based on the following general schedule and applicable collective bargaining agreement:
after 1 year to 4 years: 10 days
5 years to 8 years: 15 days
9 years to 11 years: 17 days
12 years to 15 years: 20 days
16 years to 19 years: 23 days
20 years to 23 years: 25 days
24+ years: 28 days
 
Personal Time
Sworn police officers receive 8 hours of personal time after 6 months of service; 24 hours after 1 year of service.

Compensatory Time
Sworn Officers may accrue up to 80 hours which can be carried over from year to year.

Holidays
Sworn Police Officers are eligible for 12 paid holidays in accordance with the holiday schedule published by the Village at the beginning of the calendar year.

Sick Leave
Sick time is earned at the rate of one day (8 hours) per month worked (sick leave buy-back incentives available).

Bereavement Leave
Three days paid leave for immediate family members.

Military Leave
Granted in accordance with existing laws.

Insurance and Pension Benefits:

Health and Dental Insurance
Choice of health plan options which utilize the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois PPO network or HMO Illinois network of health care providers. Dental coverage is provided by Delta Dental. The Village pays 80% of the monthly medical and 75% of the monthly dental insurance premiums.

Life Insurance
Group Basic Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage are Village paid benefits provided to all full time employees under group policies issued and underwritten by The Securian.
Group Basic Term Life benefit: 1x annual base salary; a Village paid benefit providing your beneficiaries with essential protection and a cost-effective financial safety net in their time of need.
AD&D benefit: 1x annual base salary; a Village paid benefit providing additional insurance protection for certain accidental losses such as accidental loss of life, limbs, speech, hearing or sight, paralysis, and more.

Police Pension Fund
Huntley Police Officers are members of the Downstate Police Pension Fun. Employee pre-tax contribution is 9.91% of pensionable wages.

Supplemental / Optional Benefits:

Voluntary Vision Insurance
An employee-paid optional benefit. Coverage is provided by VSP.

Supplemental Term Life Policy
An employee-paid optional benefit that offers extra protection to fit individual needs; coverage may also be purchased for spouse and eligible children. Policies are subject to medical underwriting.

Flexible Spending Account
A flexible spending account lets a participant use before-tax income to pay for eligible medical and/or dependent daycare expenses.

Deferred Compensation
Officers are eligible to participate in a 457 deferred compensation plan.

AFLAC Supplemental Insurance
AFLAC offers additional voluntary supplemental benefit products to employees.

Additional Incentives:

Uniforms and Equipment
Uniforms and Equipment are issued to all police officers. Special duty uniforms are also provided by the Village.

Tuition Assistance Program
Full-time employees are eligible to seek assistance from the Village for continuing education costs. Tuition reimbursement for approved courses will be reimbursed up to 100% based upon academic performance.

Longevity Pay
Longevity Pay ranging between $1,000 for 10 years of service and $1,500 after 20 years of service.

Specialty Pay
Specialty Pay will be given for eligible duty assignment including the following: accident investigator (assigned to outside agency); evidence technicians (assigned to outside agency); detectives;  firearms trainers; and defensive tactics trainers. Field training officers and officers in charge receive an additional $4.50 per hour while engaged in those duties.

Work Schedule
Work Schedule is based on a 12-hour day allowing the officers every other weekend off duty with rotating days off during the week.

Physical Fitness Voluntary Program
The Physical Fitness Voluntary Program consists of an annual P.O.W.E.R. test. Those that successfully complete the test will be awarded a $400 stipend.
